ADVENT 2025: Romans 8
It seems like there’s more and more anxiety leading up to Christmas. Whether it be the consumeristic “spirit” of the age or the let down of dashed expectations revolving around friends and family or the grief that accompanies empty chairs around the table. To be sure Advent is NOT Christmas…but it does lead into it. That time of year when we suspend our longings for instant gratification and do the hard word of waiting. Advent means “arrival” and to enter into this time properly we acknowledge that God arrived in the person of Jesus Christ. He has come, he has died, he has risen, he will come again. But he has not left us on our own. In our waiting, he has left us his Spirit. The third person of the trinity, often neglected, wrought with misunderstanding. This year, we want to acknowledge the oft-quiet voice of the Counselor (John 16:7) who bears witness to Jesus in our midst. The water is deep, but it is welcoming. Join us as we wait for our blessed hope to appear again.
