Soaking in the Psalms
“Blessed is the man (or woman) who meditates on God’s Word day and night.”
This is the opening invitation of the book of Psalms.
The prayer book of God’s people. They invite us to “meditate.” In modern nomenclature, they could just as easily have invited us to “marinate” in the Word of God. We’re calling our summer series, “Soaking in the Psalms.” We hope to do just that. It has been said that “music is the language of the heart.” The Psalms are just that: the expressions of our heart put to meter and verse. Whether it be joy, sorrow, hope, lament, regret, despair, or groanings too deep for words (Rom. 8:26), the Psalms have been a trusty companion to help humans navigate a fallen world. The wild country of the heart is a challenging terrain to traverse, yet we do well to turn to God’s Word as our compass and guide. Join us as we seek to find godly expression for the complex emotions we find within.
